How to install the DIY Topo Line Car Wrap Kits

 

Surface Preparation:

The secret to a long-lasting wrap is a spotless surface. Before you begin, ensure you are working in a clean, shaded area out of direct sunlight and wind.

1. Wash & Dry: Thoroughly wash and completely dry your vehicle.
2. Deep Clean: Wipe down the entire installation area—especially the edges and body seams—using an 80/20 mix of water and Isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
3. Final Check: Ensure the surface is 100% dry and free of lint or dust before proceeding.

 

Prep the Vinyl:

Make the material easier to handle.

1. Unroll your topo kit vinyl onto a flat surface.
2. Apply a small amount of light, gentle heat with a heat gun and smooth it out. This relaxes the vinyl, allowing it to lay completely flat and making it much easier to position on the vehicle.

 

Lay the Topo Lines:

Map out your design.

1. Start & End at Edges: For a professional, seamless look, ensure that every line starts and ends on a physical edge or body seam.
2. How to Shape: Gently guide the vinyl into position with one hand while using your finger to firmly press it into place with your other hand.
3. Easy Adjustments: If you make a mistake or don't like how a line is curving, simply peel the line back up and reposition it.

 

Apply Circles & Curvatures:

Achieving a tight, wrinkle-free finish.

1. Manipulate the Shapes: The included circles do not need to remain perfectly round—feel free to stretch and shape them to fit your vehicle's contours.
2. Prevent Wrinkles: To get a tight, smooth finish around tight curves or at the edges, apply a slight, gentle stretch as you press the final curve into place.
3. Fixing Wrinkles: If a wrinkle forms, carefully lift the vinyl, smooth the wrinkle out, and reapply.

 

Trim & Separate the Seams:

Crucial for preventing lifting.

1. Using a sharp razor blade, carefully trim away all excess vinyl.
2. Cut Every Seam: Cut the vinyl along every single door gap, body panel seam, and hood line.
3. Why this matters: Separating the vinyl at these gaps prevents the material from lifting over time when the vehicle's panels flex.

 

Optional Styles & Accent Kits:

Adding custom touches.

1. Dashed Line Look: To create a dashed effect, measure and cut your vinyl lines into even segments before application. Apply the resulting dashes to the vehicle surface with even spacing.
2. Accent Booster Kits: If you are using an accent booster kit, install those lines using the exact same methods outlined in Steps 3 and 4.

 

Post-Heat & Set:

Lock the adhesive into place.

• Activate the Bond: Go over the entire completed design with your heat gun. Post-heating activates the pressure-sensitive adhesive for a permanent bond.
• Lock the Edges: Focus the heat heavily on all edges, seams, and corners. Immediately after heating a section, apply firm pressure with your finger or a squeegee to ensure the vinyl conforms fully and won't lift down the road.
